Madonna and Child
Among all the forms preserved in the Manufacture's archives, the Virgin and Child is undoubtedly the most unexpected and moving discovery.
Found during an exploration of the workshops, in our historical molds, this piece stands out for its delicate posture and remarkable expression, bearing witness to the gesture of an artist whose work we have inherited.
Reissued today with the utmost respect for its original form, it reconnects with the intimate and spiritual character of the primitive object.
Crafted from sandstone and then entirely worked by hand, the statue features particularly fine lines. Carefully worked, the expression is graceful and the silhouette balanced, revealing the mastery of the gesture.
Every detail, such as the drapery, the curve of the faces, and the softness of the posture, emphasizes the complexity of the work and the patience required for its realization.
Each statue is unique, marked by the long time it takes to shape and by the demanding expertise passed down through generations.
A singular and heritage piece, the Virgin and Child is as much a decorative sculpture, an object of transmission, as it is a living testimony to the diversity of forms that have passed through the Manufacture over time.
Its re-edition pays homage to a little-known artistic tradition of our workshops and offers a timeless presence, capable of inhabiting an interior with depth and sobriety.
Made of non-freezing stoneware, fired at very high temperatures, the statue naturally resists bad weather, and frost in particular.
It can thus find its place outdoors, in a facade niche, on the edge of an entrance, under the shelter of a porch, or in a secret corner of the garden, where it creates a presence that is both protective and poetic.
Due to its finesse and complexity, the Virgin and Child is a demanding piece, requiring an exceptional manufacturing time.
It is entirely made to order, in the Manufacture's workshops, by our most experienced ceramists.
Manufacturing time, approximately 3 months.
