Virgin and Child
Among all the forms preserved in the Manufacture's archives, the Virgin and Child is undoubtedly the most unexpected and moving discovery.
Found during an exploration of the workshops, among our historical molds, this piece stands out for its delicate posture and remarkable expression, bearing witness to the gesture of an artist whose work we have inherited.
Reissued today with the greatest respect for its original form, it reconnects with the intimate and spiritual character of the primitive object.
Fashioned from stoneware and then entirely hand-worked, the statue features particularly fine lines. Carefully crafted, the expression is graceful and the silhouette balanced, revealing the full mastery of the gesture.
Every detail, such as the drapery, the curve of the faces, and the softness of the posture, emphasizes the complexity of the work and the patience required for its realization.
Each statue is unique, marked by the long time it takes to shape and the demanding savoir-faire passed down through generations.
A unique and heritage piece, the Virgin and Child is as much a decorative sculpture, an object of transmission, as it is a living testimony to the diversity of forms that have passed through the Manufacture over time.
Its re-edition pays homage to an unknown artistic tradition of our workshops and offers a timeless presence, capable of inhabiting an interior with depth and sobriety.
Made of frost-resistant stoneware, fired at very high temperatures, the statue is naturally resistant to bad weather, and frost in particular.
It can thus find its place outdoors, in a facade niche, on an entrance ledge, sheltered under a porch, or in a secret corner of the garden, where it creates a presence that is both protective and poetic.
Due to its finesse and complexity, the Virgin and Child is a demanding piece, requiring an exceptional manufacturing time.
It is entirely made to order, in the Manufacture's workshops, by our most experienced ceramists.
Manufacturing time, approximately 3 months.
